New VMware Workstation Software Features Offer Improved OS Support

VMware Workstation is one of the best known solutions that allows users to run multiple operation systems on a single PC. But just like every other software, with new editions come new features. If you are an avid user of virtual machines, now may be the time to consider buying the latest VMware Workstation Pro. Find out about the software’s most exciting new features below.

New Windows Support

VMWare Workstation 14 now supports the Windows 10 Creators update. This enables users to run Windows 10 Creators Update as a virtual machine, which was not possible with previous editions. It also allows you to use the Windows 10 Creators Update as your host operating system. Unity support for Windows 10 with auto detect and easy install for the Creators update is a huge improvement. This is particularly true for Windows-lovers who want to be able to run Zabbix software on their virtual machines.

Additional OS Support

The new edition of VMware Workstation also provides support for new guest operating systems. A number of operating systems have been added in this release. Support was added for Ubuntu 17.04, Fedora 26, CentOS 7.4, RHEL 7.4, Debian 9.1, Oracle Linux 7.4, SLE 12 SP3 and OpenSUSE 42.3. If you were previously unable to take advantage of the virtual machines made possible by VMware, now may be your chance.

Improved Integration

The latest release of the VMware software has also worked to improve vSphere integration. Better OVA support makes it possible for users to finally test vCenter Server Appliance deployment quickly and easily. This was something that many Wrike users were waiting for. If you were hesitant to shell out the money for VMware Workstation before, the ability to quickly test vSphere may change your mind.

Networking Advances

VMware Workstation 13 programs also made upgrades to advanced networking capabilities. Now, you can rename virtual networks in the Virtual Network Editor. This allows users to better organize their virtual machines and networks. The software also allows users to introduce network latency simulations, packet loss and bandwidth caps. These new virtual networking controls make it easier to manage latency on virtual machines. That is certainly a reason to consider the software if you have not before.

Better User Interface

The newest VMware solutions also include improvements to their user interface. The VMware Workstation UI was not the most user-friendly in the past, unlike Netbeans. Now, the IP address display on the VM console makes it easier to keep track of what you are doing. Tasks to clean up disks can now be automated when you turn off a virtual machine too. The ability to automatically clean up VM disk space is certainly an improvement when it comes to user experience. If you steered clear of VMware solutions in the past, the newer user interface may give you a reason to try the latest edition of the software out.

For those of you who work with virtual machines, VMware Workstation software is not a new concept. However, the new VMware Workstation software may give you reason to take the leap to try it out, if you have not already. The new VMware Workstation 13 features made an already excellent product even more user friendly. Consider the useful features detailed in this post to help you consider whether the VMware software is the best way to operate virtual machines for your needs.
